Many of us have heard the scary statistics about diabetes: Nearly 26 million Americans have it, including more than 714,000 Hoosiers. In a state too often known for our high rates of obesity and smoking, we and our children face a frightening future of increased diabetes prevalence if we don’t take action now.
The good news is that we’re not powerless to act. Exercise is a critical tool in diabetes management for anyone with the disease. For people at risk for type 2 diabetes, one of the easiest ways to prevent it is to simply get some exercise.
That’s why Roche Diagnostics has committed to help Stop Diabetes with a team of more than 150 employees for the largest-ever Indiana Tour de Cure. More than 1,400 cyclists will ride Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for research, education and advocacy.
We all need to claim a voice in the Stop Diabetes movement. Visit www.diabetes.org/indytour or ride with us. Together, we can make a difference.
